LinkedIn has launched native video meetings that allow users to make one-to-one calls within their LinkedIn app.
LinkedIn allows users to set up video conferences with one another since last year.
The call would be held on Zoom or another app because LinkedIn doesn't have the technology to facilitate video calls.
LinkedIn, a subsidiary of Microsoft, has used Azure to create a native solution that connects users via video.

LinkedIn announces native video messaging and its benefits to users in a statement.
"From the initial job search to a one-on-one conversation, we wanted our members to be productive and safe.
Members can communicate virtually using video conferencing while keeping the context of their current conversation.
Members can now easily set up video calls with their network members without having to sign up for any service or download any client.
A native video call will also include LinkedIn-specific profile data, which gives members useful context about the person they are meeting.
Next, we will show you how to make a native video phone call.

Azure Communication Services is the technology behind native video conferencing. It is built on the same technology as Microsoft Teams.
LinkedIn launched video meetings as a new service. It sounds like they have big plans for the future.
According to the company:
"Now that we have established the foundations for video conferencing, there are many exciting features in store as we make LinkedIn video meetings even more enjoyable...
Their investment in video meetings opened up innovation for video conferences across the LinkedIn ecosystem with potential uses cases that range from messaging peers to interviewing applicants.
Future updates will include several features, including:
Calendar integration to send an email with an ICS from both parties after a meeting has been scheduled
Chat with your friends via messaging while you're in a video chat
Screen sharing and virtual backgrounds
The feature is currently limited to simple one-to-one video calls. However, it's a major step up from the one that was before.
It is interesting that the social network that connects professionals is so far behind in video calling. This is especially surprising considering how integral it has become to the workplace in the past year.
LinkedIn used to be keen to refer users to other services but it is now investing in its own. There's great potential for video calling on LinkedIn with Microsoft backing it.
